Mississauga The house went up in the seventies. So did the bathroom.
Bathroom renovations in Mississauga
Albany Contracting Group does bathroom renovations in Mississauga, from Hamilton. Half the city's homes date from 1961 to 1990. If yours still has the bathroom it was built with, that's the room we redo.
About Mississauga
Mississauga is a young city full of middle-aged houses. Here is what the public record says about them.
- A city made in 1974Mississauga was formed that year by joining a number of historic villages. New suburbs filled in around them in the years after.
- Half the homes were built between 1961 and 1990That's about 123,000 of the city's 244,575 occupied homes in the 2021 Census. Only about 7 in 100 are older.
- The sixties and seventies built the mostAbout 31 percent of homes went up between 1961 and 1980. Another 20 percent came in the 1980s.
- Houses and towers, side by sideAbout 37 percent of homes are single-detached houses. About 27 percent are apartments in buildings of five storeys or more.
- Room for a familyTwo in three homes have three bedrooms or more.
- Heritage villagesMeadowvale Village became Ontario's first heritage conservation district of its kind in 1980. Old Port Credit Village is another.
- The City's rule on fixturesSwapping a sink, tub, toilet or shower where it already sits needs no permit. Adding, removing or moving one does, and so does drainage work. The City of Mississauga's building permit page lists the rest.

Bathroom renovations in Mississauga, for the 70s and 80s house
Almond tub. Gold taps. A vanity that's older than your kids. If that's the main bath, it's probably the one everybody uses and nobody likes.
We strip it to the studs if it needs it, check what the years did behind the walls, and rebuild: shower or tub, tile, vanity, lighting. Want to keep the toilet where it is? That keeps the City's permit rule simpler. Watch how our bathroom renovations go, start to finish.

Tub to shower conversions, when nobody uses the tub
The kids have moved out. The tub hasn't. Now it's a high edge you step over twice a day.
Taking it out is a real job. The tub comes out and the floor and drain get sorted. Then a walk in shower goes in, with a low step and glass you can wipe. Here's what a tub to shower conversion involves.

Other rooms in the same house
Once the bathroom's done, the rest of the house can look its age. Four more jobs we do:
- A kitchen that doesn't fit how you cook. See our kitchen renovations.
- A basement that's just storage and a furnace. Look at basement renovations.
- Water on the basement floor after rain. That's basement waterproofing.
- Front steps that have seen too many winters. We do front porch rebuilds.

Questions we get
Our house is in Meadowvale Village or Old Port Credit Village. Does that change anything?
It can, if the job touches the outside of the house. Both are heritage conservation districts, and the City has heritage permit applications there reviewed by a local advisory subcommittee first. If a bathroom plan means a new window or vent on the outside, check with the City's heritage staff before work starts.
Do I need a permit to move the toilet in Mississauga?
Yes. The City lists a plumbing fixture that's added, removed or relocated as work that needs a building permit. Replacing a toilet in the same spot doesn't need one.
What does a bathroom renovation in Mississauga cost?
We give you a price at a free consultation in your home, after we've seen the room. Whether the plumbing moves, and what's behind the old tile, matter most.
Can a 1970s tub alcove become a walk in shower?
That alcove is where a conversion usually goes. We measure it at the consultation and tell you what fits before anything is ordered.
Ready when the bathroom is. Tell us what it looks like now.
- Tell us. Call, text a photo, or leave a number.
- We call you back to talk it through and book a time to see it.
- Free consultation at your home. You get your price once we've seen the job.
