Concrete
Street to front door: concrete driveways, walkways and patios in Hamilton
Which one sounds like yours?
The driveway cracked right across, and the garage end has lifted.
Old slabs crack and settle, and Hamilton winters work on every gap. A crack that keeps opening, or a slab that rocks underfoot, usually means the base below has moved. Patching the top rarely holds for long once that happens. What to check: lay a straightedge or a long level across the worst spot. If one side sits higher, take a photo with it in the frame. What we do: we look at why it moved before we talk about replacing it.
Salt has eaten the top off, and now it's all gravel.
When the surface flakes and the stones underneath come loose, the top layer is going. It's common on older concrete that has seen years of salt. What to know: sealing can slow it on newer concrete. A slab that's already flaking may need replacing. What we do: we tell you which one yours is at the consultation, before anything is priced.
The walk to the door sinks a little more every spring.
A walkway that dips, tilts toward the house or catches a toe is the one people notice first, usually guests. What to try: after rain, look for where water sits. Puddles against the wall or at the side door point to a slope problem, not just a crack. What we do: we set the new walk so water runs away from the house, then pour and finish it.
We redid the porch, and now the old walk looks worse.
It happens a lot. A new porch makes a tired walkway look older. Doing the walk, the driveway or both in exposed aggregate ties the front together. If the steps are part of it, they have their own page: concrete steps repair. For the porch itself, see front porch rebuilds.
Can you pour a small patio out back?
Yes. A concrete patio is a plain, solid floor for a table and a barbecue, beside the house or out in the yard. What to know: the size, how it meets the house and where the water goes decide most of the job. Bring a sketch or just point at the lawn.
What we do
Old concrete comes out. The base is dug, packed and graded so water runs off. Then the forms go in, and the concrete is poured and finished.
- Driveways in exposed aggregate
- Walkways from the driveway or sidewalk to the door
- Patios beside the house or out in the yard
- Matching new concrete to what's staying, talked through at the consultation

- The base and the slopeHow much digging, packing and grading it takes to keep water away from the house.
- The finishExposed aggregate takes more steps than a plain finish.
- AccessHow close the truck can get, and whether it's a front or a backyard pour.
- What we findRoots, soft ground or old drains under the slab.

Questions we get
How much does a concrete driveway cost in Hamilton?
Every concrete driveway is priced at a free in-home consultation, because size and what comes out first change the price most. The finish, the base and access matter too. We measure, then give you your price. No obligation.
What is exposed aggregate concrete?
It's concrete finished so the small stones in the mix show at the surface. You get a textured, pebbled look instead of a smooth grey slab. It's the finish you see in our photos above.
Can you fix the steps at the same time?
Yes, we can look at them in the same visit. Steps have their own page, concrete steps repair, and we price them with the rest of the job.
Can the new concrete match what's staying?
We talk it through at the consultation. New concrete next to old rarely looks identical, so we show you where a clean break or a change of finish will look best.
Is fall too late to pour concrete?
It depends on the weather around the pour day. We talk timing through at the free consultation, so you know whether to go ahead now or plan for spring.
The driveway is the first thing you see coming home.
Leave a number. We call you back, then price it at a free consultation, once we've seen the job.
- Tell us. Call, text a photo of the driveway or walk, or fill in the short form.
- We call you back. We ask a few questions so we come prepared.
