Stone and flagstone porches, built and repaired
Albany Contracting Group builds and repairs stone porches across Hamilton: flagstone landings and steps, stone facing, stone columns. It's the work you'll see most in our photos.
Which one sounds like yours?
We want the porch people slow down to look at.
A flagstone porch does that. Every stone is a different shape, so no two landings look the same.
What to know: flagstone suits most Hamilton houses, brick or siding. It works on the landing, the treads, or both, with stone facing on the sides to tie it together.
What we do: we lay out the stone with you, then build the flagstone porch and steps.
A flagstone has lifted and rocks underfoot.
Usually the stone has lost its bed underneath, or water got into the joints and froze. One loose stone tends to loosen its neighbours.
What to know: tape off a stone that rocks. It's easy to catch a toe on.
What we do: we lift the loose stones, fix what's under them and reset them, then fill the joints so water stays out. That's most flagstone porch repair.
The joints are cracked and weeds are coming through.
Open joints let water under the stone. Each winter it freezes, and the stones move a little more.
What to try: pull the weeds by hand and keep the porch swept. That buys time, not a fix.
What we do: we clear out the old joints and fill them again. If stones have moved, we reset those first.
One stone cracked right through.
A single cracked flagstone can be swapped out. Natural stone varies, so an exact match isn't always possible. We'll show you what sits closest before we cut anything.
The stone on the sides is coming away.
Stone facing on porch skirting and columns can loosen at the joints or the caps. We reset or replace what's loose and make the caps sound. For stone and brick on the rest of the house, see stone and brick masonry.
Stone porches, start to finish.
We build new stone porches and repair the ones you have: flagstone floors, flagstone or stone steps, stone facing on the skirting, and stone columns. Railings go on to suit, in aluminum or glass.
If your steps are concrete and cracking, that's concrete steps and porch repair. If the whole porch is done, it's one of our front porch rebuilds. For driveways and walkways, see concrete work. Permit question? Do you need a permit in Hamilton?

We are grateful to our neighbours for recommending this family-operated company. Our new porch and railings are beautiful additions to our home. Joey was always available for questions and ensured all work was completed to his and our satisfaction. We look forward to working with Albany again.
Questions we get
How much does a flagstone porch cost in Hamilton?
Every flagstone porch is priced at a free in-home consultation, because the size of the porch and the stone you choose change the price more than anything else. We see the porch first, then give you the price.
Can a flagstone porch be repaired, or does it need replacing?
Most flagstone porches can be repaired. Loose stones are reset and joints refilled; a full rebuild is for porches where the base underneath has failed.
Why do flagstones come loose?
Water gets into open joints, freezes and pushes the stone up. Over a few winters, stones lose their bed and start to rock.
Can you add flagstone to my existing porch?
Sometimes. It depends on the condition of the porch underneath, which we check at the consultation.
Do you build stone porch steps as well?
Yes. We build flagstone and stone steps, on their own or with a new landing, with railings to suit.
